Review in More Detail
We tried out the Razer Kraken headset in different settings and situations to truly test out if it holds up to the headphones and headset test, especially when it comes to gaming. Here are our findings below…
Sound Quality
When it comes to headphones for gaming, you want the sound quality to be top-notch. After all, that’s the purpose of headphones, to listen to things. It’s important that if wireless gaming headphones are trying to be one of the best gaming headphones on the market, they take sound quality highly into consideration when creating their gaming headphones wireless.
The sound quality that emerges from the Razer Kraken x gaming headphones has is pretty solid, once you use the custom Synapse software to customize it. When it comes to sound, the Razer Kraken te headphones do a fantastic job of having a powerful sound that is great for capturing your attention during your games. Although we do have some complaints which will discuss further down. During your online gaming sessions, you will be able to have clear sound and easily hear every effect, which is definitely important when gaming and we have found that this made the gaming experience extra enjoyable.
One area that we didn’t appreciate however was the sound rendering of the headphones. With the integrated Synapse software and sound reproduction features that you can customize, you can improve the sound quality a little bit though. Without the application, we did find issues with the bass being a little too heavy and it overall really disturbs the balance of everything. With the application, you can reduce the bass, which is definitely needed in our opinion, and once this is done, the listening experience is a lot nicer.
We definitely recommend if you’re getting these Razer Kraken Tournament Edition headphones that you look at adjusting the bass before you start your game. Trust us, you’ll thank us for the tip. To do this, you can make the adjustment by using the dial that’s on the provided sound card. Once the application is activated you will notice that the sound is now sharper and now as overpowering.
When it comes to the best gaming headphones, you definitely need to be looking for gaming headphones for mics. Especially since a lot of gamers play on life these days or even do video recordings of them playing their games, mics are simply a must. We would have preferred if the Razer Kraken x headphones had a gooseneck style microphone to be better at producing a sound that is equivalent to the speakers, but we weren’t overly impressed by this quality.
When it comes to the mids, rendering makes it more balanced and with the equalizer, you can fill the gap that is between 2 and 5 kHz so it doesn’t feature a muffled sound anymore. When it comes to the treble, we think that if it had been more ventilated, it would sound a little bit better. Overall, though, the presence of the speakers allows for a fairly powerful sound and balanced stereo sound when playing.
The Microphone
When it comes to the best gaming headphones, you definitely need to be looking for gaming headphones for mics. Especially since a lot of gamers play on life these days or even do video recordings of them playing their games, mics are simply a must. We would have preferred if the Razer Kraken x headphones had has a detachable microphone which is not only great for storage and transporting your Razer Kraken headset but also for flexibility in terms of usability.
The microphone features a flexible but solid design that allows you to easily position it just about anywhere you would like it. This is great for finding a comfortable position that works for you and when you’re gaming, but also picks up the best audio. It has a firmness to it that once it’s adjusted, it won’t be moving anywhere.
When it comes to the sound quality of the microphone, obviously an important aspect, we noticed that the quality is a little bit better than the other Razer headset, the Razor Electra in terms of quality. We noticed that with the microphone cap, it did not pick up on much of the surrounding noise when we tested it in a busy area and overall had a pretty clear sound.

We did notice that there were some cons or areas of weakness when it came to the Razer Kraken headset, however, especially in terms of the microphone. We noticed that the microphone sensitivity was a little bit too weak for our liking, but with the volume normalization setting on the app we mentioned previously, you can make sure to adjust your microphone so it’s at a sufficient level to your liking.
Lastly, there are few features that make a world of difference when it comes to this Razer Kraken headset microphone, those being “Ambient Noise Reduction” and the “Vocal Clarity” setting.
Build Quality
There’s a lot that goes into headphones to make them be considered some of the best gaming headphones. The Razer Kraken headset is designed by an American manufacturer that selected materials that overall make the build of the headphones fairly solid. We love that the Kraken headsets are designed to be extremely durable and that’s certainly the case with this Razer Kraken headset.
The design and the material that is used clearly screams gaming headset and may make the headphones a little less appealing to the standard headphone listener. The brand used strong materials to truly transform the headset and take it from an ordinary everyday listening headset, to a Razer Kraken Tournament Edition headset. There’s mesh fabric at the arch and throughout the design that adds a bit of extra comfort, along with the imitation leather covering the ear cups and throughout the design as well. To make the headset stand above the rest, it actually features some cooling gel inside the headband which helps if you plan on wearing them for hours on end. You now don’t have to worry about your head overheating.
Overall, we absolutely love the design of this Razer Kraken Tournament Edition and we definitely think that they achieved what they brand was after with creating this headset design.
Design
We briefly mentioned above how these gaming headphones scream gaming headphones with their design aspects and overall build. However, there’s nothing wrong with that, especially if you’re using them for gaming. The design of the Razer Kraken x is a little bit more durable than the previous Razer headphone and has a bit more refinement to it for added comfort. Everything from the mesh to the foam to the cooling gel throughout was added for ample comfort.
The headphones feature oval shape that comfortably shape the ears and adds a bit of style to it as well. It should also be known that the headphones are not that heavy either when wearing them. Although they look rather large and heavy when simply lifting them up, when you place them on your head, you will barely know they’re even there.
Features and Controls
To be considered one of the best gaming headphones, you need to have certain features and controls that are essential to any gamer. Firstly, the Razer Kraken headset can be connected by a mini-jack cable that features a remote control with a volume control wheel and a switch as well. This switch allows you to easily mute or unmutes the microphone which is great for quick changes. Unfortunately, this cable is not detachable, which if you’ve read any of our reviews before on this website, you would know that we definitely prefer detachable cords because it makes it easier for transporting, storing, and to avoid breaking the cord over time. With the cord not being detachable, if something was to happen with it, you would, unfortunately, need a brand new headset instead of simply just buying a new cord.

There is a USB sound card featured as well. The Mini-jack allows you to be compatible with just about any device including iPhone, Smartphones, gamepad, portable console, and much more. There is a splitter that has to be used when connecting it to your computer, however, but it can be done.
Comfort
Comfort was definitely a feature considered when designing the Razer Kraken te gaming headset and it should be, after all, you’d probably be wearing them for a while. There is a faux leather padding on the ear cups which gives a comfortable experience and light, yet durable mesh surrounding the arch and throughout the design as well. To take comfort to the next level though, the cooling gel that is placed inside the arch will deliver you hours of endless comfort with not having to take your headphones off due to overheating.

In terms of adjustments, the Razer Kraken Tournament Edition headphones allow for quick, easy adjustments so that you can find your perfect level of comfort. The ear cups also rotate to help adjust the size of the headband as well, ensuring that you have the perfect fit.
When we tested out the Razer Kraken TE in various settings, we didn’t find any discomfort at all, even for hours on end.
Comparing to Similar Headphones
When looking to compare the Razer Kraken TE to other gaming headphones on the market, there’s a lot of options. There’s a lot of headphones that claim to the title of best gaming headphones, so it’s hard to narrow down a pick of the best headphone to compare the Razer to.
We opted for something within the Razer range already and decided to compare the Razer Kraken to the Razer Electra V2 headset that we’ve briefly mentioned throughout this comprehensive review already. As you would expect with being from the same brand, there is no doubt a lot of similarities between the two style headphones, which we mentioned above. When it comes to the shape of the ear cups to the insulation and design, they are very, very similar and we think that they’re a popular pick when it comes to gaming headphones that it would be useful to compare the two more in-depth.
The two have built-in stereo speakers which allow them to produce great quality through both the left and the right speakers. The Kraken Pro has a slight advantage over the Electra V2 with the fact that it’s cable to connect to devices is slightly longer and gives you a lot more freedom and flexibility due to its length. That being said, it should be noted that this cable is not actually detachable, which means it can be broken and tangled more easily as well.
In terms of sound, the two headphones are nearly identical, and have a very similar style when it comes. to the passive noise isolation components since they both have a similar build. We did notice the sound pressure level with the Kraken Pro a little bit higher which gave it a louder sound if that’s something that is extremely important to you.
Overall, there isn’t too much difference when it comes to the two headsets, only slight features and changes that may sway you one way or the other.

Overall Thoughts
When it comes to our overall conclusion, do we think it’s one of the best gaming headphones on the market today? We kind of do! Although there are areas of improvement, with any headphones you will find that we do think that the Razer Kraken TE headphones have really successfully hit the nail on the hammer with these headphones. It’s no wonder why they’re known as the Razer Kraken Tournament Edition headphones with their design, features, an added level of comfort that any tournament wearer is definitely searching for.
There are some downfalls with the non-detachable cord which we don’t necessarily love and then also the sound quality. The sound quality is hard because we don’t love the initial settings on the headphones at all. Once you work with the application that’s recommended and adjust and customize your sound, you can find a really nice balance that works perfectly for your particular game and preferences. Everyone has different preferences, so although the sound quality is top-notch, we have to give credit where credit is due and love the fact that individuals can customize the settings to their liking.
With everything taken into consideration, you may ask Is the Razer Kraken TE headphones for you? You need to take in factors like how long you’ll be wearing the headphones for, your intended purpose, will you be voice recording, and a few other things discussed above, on whether they’re the right headphones for you.
