Review in More Detail
We tried out the Sony WH-1000XM3 headphones in different settings and situations to truly test out if it holds up to the headphones and headset test. Here are our findings below…
The sound quality of headphones is an especially important feature. You don’t want to have just purchased Bluetooth Sony headphones and as soon as you start playing your music you notice that the sound quality is absolutely terrible right? Of course, you don’t!
Even when it comes to Sony Headphones Noise Canceling, even if you’re not listening to music, you want to make sure that the sound quality in all aspects of the headphones is high-quality and the very best on the market.
Our overall analysis of the headphones include the following:
Sony engineers are constantly upgrading their technology and improving their sound quality over and over again with every new model. So as you would expect, the Sony WH-1000XM4 probably has some improvements compared to the Sony WH-1000XM3 model. That being said, we haven’t noticed that many differences with the Sony WH-1000XM4 so if you’re looking to save a little bit of money, opting for the Sony WH-1000XM3 instead is a better option in our opinon.
Having tested these headphones in a variety of different settings and environments, we have found that the bass and the treble were both very distinctive and pretty solid. There are beautiful highs and by inserting the sound signal processing chips you can get an amplifier function as well. Sony states that this noise reduction processor is
“Four times more efficient than its predecessors.”
A lot of people are looking for noise cancelling or noise reducing headphones. After all, a lot of headphone users are using their headphones on their daily commute on public transportation, at a crowded gym, or in an environment where there’s others around them. Based on our extensive tests, we can say that the Sony WH-1000XM3 are effective when it comes to minimizing the external noise around them.
With the Sony WH-1000XM3, it is actually possible to cut out all the external noise entirely which is extremely impressive and definitely takes the Sony headphones to the next level, especially when it comes to noise cancelling.
In addition to the excellent noise reduction capabilities, there is a program as well that helps to adapt the external noise and automatically continue to reduce it even further with the multifunction button and the Sony Connect App. For example, you can set certain programs in the app that as soon as sirens start, the capacity of the reduction will automatically increase so you don’t have to remove your headphones, readjust the reduction settings and put them back on. The headphones does it already for you!
There’s a lot that goes into making a pair of headphones and Sony, one of the most popular audio manufacturers in the world, definitely has it down to a science. The Sony WH 1000 headphones are definitely a mid-range level of headphones. The finishes and the materials used on the Sony WH-1000XM3 headphones have worked together to produce an attractive appearance and also extremely durable and effective design as well.
In previous Sony models, we noticed that Sony had let go of some of their high standards to make more affordable, cheaper options on the market. With the Sony WH-1000XM3, this model of headphones is not following that same concept and instead has been created to maintain Sony’s high-end style and has resulted in a very clean, precise look.
The overall design of the Sony WH-1000XM3 is a very thin and sleek design. The left side of the headphones you will find the power button and a Jack port as well as the NFC chip. The functions and features on the headphones definitely match the exisiting trend of sleek and minimal.
On the other side, there is a USB Type-C port and there is faux leather throughout the design of the headphones as well which gives them a nice overall refined look. With the comfortable, plush padded ear cups and the high-quality materials used without, the headphones are designed for comfort, but more importantly, to look great at the same time.
Features and Controls
When it comes to different features and controls that the headphones have, that’s maybe one of the most important features when it comes to Bluetooth Sony Headphones, Sony headphones noise cancelling, and of course, when it comes to Sony WH 1000 as well.
Sony has made the features and design of the Sony WH-1000XM3 fairly simple, but that doesn’t mean that the headset isn’t extremely functional and practical. To continue the sleek design, it didn’t make sense for there to be hundreds of buttons on the headphones and Sony took this into consideration when designing everything with purpose.
The most notable feature of the Sony WH-1000 headphones is the fact that it has external noise reducing capabilities and is in fact, one of the main marketing angles that Sony has been using to get the information about these headphones out there. The external noise reducing system is pretty amazing and completely customizable. You may shut the system down completely or program it for specific levels of noise, environments, and other settings as well. This allows you to truly be in your own bubble when you want to be and outside of it when you don’t want to be.
Another great feature we love about these headphones from Sony is the gesture of your palm on the right side of the headphones can reduce the volume. This means that if you want to lower the volume or talk to someone, all you need to do is move your hand instead of taking the headphones actually off.
With the Sony app, you can choose a lot of things, one of those being the sound quality when you’re in a certain location or environment. Lastly, if you’re wearing these headphones on a plane, Sony has thought ahead and has allowed you to adapt the atmospheric pressure, cancelling any noise pollution and stabilizing the wired connection that you have chosen.
Sony has mastered a few things whether it comes to these Sony Bluetooth headphones or Sony Noise Cancelling headphones, and especially the Sony WH 1000 headphones, comfort is key and something that is really taken into consideration when designing these sleek headphones.
Everything about the design of the Sony WH-1000XM3 is for comfort in mind. The faux leather that is used is high-quality and soft against your skin. It allows the headphones to rest really lightly on your head to avoid any unnecessary pressure and discomfort. The weight of the headphones is also massively reduced from previous Sony headphones which allows you to wear the headphones for hours upon hours and not feel any discomfort once again. The ear cups lastly, have been designed for ample comfort with the plush padding that is definitely more plush than previous models as well.
So if you’re worried about comfort with your new headphones, don’t be.

When looking to compare the Sony WH-1000XM3 to other high-quality audio headphones on the market, there’s a lot of options. When looking at the two headphones, we think that the weight of the headphones is a good place to start. The Bose 700 headphones weigh a bit more than the Sony WH-1000XM3, but not by that much. That being said, even the slightest amount of weight can make all the difference when it comes to long hours of wearing headphones.
The Bose headphones do have a little bit of sensation around the ears which can bother a few people. We’ve definitely heard some complaints about this and did notice it a little bit ourselves. Especially if you’re planning on wearing the headphones for long periods of time, this is definitely something you should consider.
Another great aspect of the Sony WH-1000XM3 compared to the Bose 700 headphones is the battery life. The Bose headphones does have an impressive 20 hours of battery power which is definitely great, but the Sony WH-1000XM3 has 30 hours of uninterrupted use which is definitely more impressive.
Another advantage that the Sony headphones have over the Bose headphones is the companion app that allows you to adjust a variety of different settings including equalizer settings a wide variety of other audio settings as well. Lastly, we think that the Sony WH-1000XM3 headphones offer a lot more flexibility in terms of shape and design so you can truly adjust the headphones to fit you and be the most comfortable fit possible – great for long-lasting wearing.
When it comes to our overall conclusion, the Sony WH-1000XM3 headphones are good Bluetooth headphones that are great for someone who is looking for something that not only works great but looks just as great. With the features like noise reduction capabilities and the customization available as well these Sony headphones have all the functionality that you would expect from top-of-the-line style headphones.
