HyperX Cloud ii

HyperX Cloud II Full Review: How Well Do These Gaming Headphones Really Work

Video game headphones are almost a different breed of headphones. HyperX Cloud II is one of the most popular gaming headphones that are on the market today. We’ve done a full comprehensive review post on the HyperX Cloud Alpha in the past, another one of HyperX’s popular gaming headphones. What we’ve discussed in that post is just because something is popular, doesn’t mean it’s the best on the market.

Just like we did with the HyperX Cloud Alpha review, we’re going to do a complete comprehensive review of the HyperX Cloud II to see if the hype is really worth it. By looking at the HyperX Cloud ii gaming headsets, we’re going to look into the tech specs, features, controls, and of course the level of comfort. With wearing a headset for long periods of time gaming, comfort is definitely an essential factor in the headphones you end up choosing and the design element as well.

Review in More Detail

We tried out the headphones so that we can give a complete review of the HyperX Cloud ii in different settings and situations to truly test out if it holds up to the headphone test. Here are our findings below…

Sound Quality

One of the major things that the HyperX Cloud ii headset took into consideration was the sound quality. The helmet design allows you to hear just about anything and everything in your games with a slight feeling of isolation. We noticed that the bass is very present and features pleasant linearity at the low frequencies and there was also a good level of treble and mids throughout our trial experience as well. We did, however, notice a little bit of precision in the mids, but regardless the clarity in the vocals was perfect.

HyperX Cloud II - Gaming Headset, 7.1 Surround Sound, Memory Foam Ear Pads,

This HyperX Cloud ii Gaming headset is fairly similar to models before it in terms of sound quality with a little bit of improvement here or there. We noticed that there’s beautiful transparency and the sound overall is really crisp and precise which makes explosions or other sound effects amplified and sound amazing. All things you want with the HyperX Cloud ii Gaming headset.

We would have liked if there was an active noise canceling system put in place in these headphones but it does feature the passive noise isolation system so it still does a pretty good job in that respect. It’s just if you’re in a really noisey area, you may find yourself distracted from time to time because it doesn’t block out all the surrounding noise.

Microphone

When it comes to the HyperX Cloud ii Gaming headphones, in the gaming world, especially if you’re playing live, you want to have a microphone that is high quality. Even if you’re not playing with other people, but instead of making a recording, a microphone is essential for a great recording experience.

Luckily with the HyperX Cloud ii Gaming headset, the microphone is really high quality and is one of the best on the market today. One advantage that the HyperX Cloud II microphone has is the fact that is detachable and you can reposition it to anywhere you want it. With the windshield placed on the microphone, it makes the sound of breathing considerably reduced so when you’re in the most intense of games, your components won’t just hear your deep breathing. This also makes the vocals very clear and overall great sound reproduction.

The presence of a sound card which helps to remove any external noise and echos from occurring and is an amazing feature. With this sound card, the incoming volume is atomically increased when the game gets louder, ensuring you can always hear what you need to hear.

The Build

The HyperX Cloud ii Headphones are built with gamers in mind. When comparing it to previous models from HyperX, we also didn’t notice too much difference with the building style and the overall solidarity of the HyperX headphones was kept throughout this design as well. The style of the headphones looks fairly similar to the same type of finishes and high-quality plastic. These headphones although not made from the most durable of materials, they’re the type of materials that if you don’t abuse the headphones you can certainly have for years and years to come. We also love that the headphones come with a case so you can protect your headphones and headsets when traveling or storing them in your gaming room when you’re done for the day.

There are red and black colors and faux leather covering parts of the headphones which gives the appearance of a more elegant design and elevated gaming headset experience.

Design

The design of these HyperX Cloud II Headphones is definitely eye-catching. With the detail of the black with the red and black details, it’ll definitely catch your eye. We find that this style of headset seems a little bit more refined and with the addition of the faux leather, very durable and overall looks great.

There is a flexibility of the hoops which makes the headphones and headsets easily adjustable to fit the user seamlessly. The hoop is also covered with foam which allows it to be well-positioned on the head without the user feeling any discomfort at all. Since the helmet is fully adjustable, it makes people of all ages able to wear it comfortably for hours on end.

HyperX kept the same circular ear cup shape and the imitation leather or foam padding. They know that this makes the headphones extra comfortable which makes sense why they continue to include it in their headphone design. The way the padding is designed, you can have ample comfort, but without your ears from overheating, something that we have found happens a lot in the past, especially with gaming headphones. When it comes to the imitation leather, it definitely adds a bit of elegance to the headphones and not only make it more comfortable, but make the headphones look a bit more elevated as well.

The external finishes include brushed metal which makes the headphones look a little bit more expensive and more prestigious in terms of design when it comes to gaming headphones and headsets.

Lastly, the fact that the controls have all been placed on the USB sound card is something that should be noted as well. Normally the controls are all over the headset so that you can make sure you’re pressing the right button for the action you want to happen. There is room for error with this design as you may press the wrong button when trying to control the functions on this headphone. That being said, HyperX actually put all these controls on a sound card to avoid any of these problems that have happened in the past.

Features

When it comes to gaming headphones, there are specific features and functions that are important that you probably won’t get with just regular headphones. The HyperX Cloud II Gaming headset knows this and takes this into consideration when it comes to the features that are available.

We did notice some slight differences when it comes to the features and controls of the HyperX Cloud ii headphones compared to other HyperX models such as the connection and the integrated control inclusion. The supplied cable that comes with the headphones work with PS4, tablets, iPhones, and Xbox as well. However, the Xbox would need an adaptor which isn’t included in the headphones and rather disappointing in our opinion.

The same cord accommodates all the controls for the sound card which controls all the features and functions as we explained in the design portion of this review. It ends with a long USB cable that also allows you to connect to your computer and is really easy to connect. Unfortunately, the main cable isn’t removable which does make travel a little difficult.

You will find all your standard controls and features like volume increase and decrease, a key to mute the microphone, a key to activate the virtual 7.1, a few other features as well. The volume is quick to change, but with a lot of the features, you’ll need to spend time getting to know and understand your headphones before getting the hang of everything. Since multiple buttons can control different things and they’re close to each other the last thing you want is to mute your microphone when you meant to turn the volume up.

Comfort

Comfort was definitely something that we took into consideration when designing the HyperX Cloud ii gaming headphones. Especially with gaming, you’d be wearing the headphones for long periods of time so it’s important that they’re comfortable and not too heavy, adding unnecessary pressure to your head.

With the addition of faux leather and plush padding, we’re happy to report that these HyperX Cloud ii Gaming headphones are very comfortable. They have good quality materials that truly make a difference in the listening experience and softness to them that cradle your ears.

Another great aspect is that the headset has an adjustable headband which allows just about anyone with any shape head to comfortably fit the HyperX Cloud ii Gaming headset to their head perfectly regardless of your age and how long your play sessions are.

Comparing to Other HyperX Cloud Headphones

There are a couple of different HyperX Cloud headphones in the market at the moment, which is definitely a topic of discussion in the gaming community. Which HyperX headphone is best? That’s exactly what we’re going to discuss in this HyperX Cloud ii review.

When looking at headphones to compare, the HyperX Cloud Alpha Pro and the HyperX Cloud II are probably the most comparable and the ones gamers are debating between the most. There’s a lot of similarities between the two but also a few differences as well which we will discuss in-depth in this post. If you want to learn more about the HyperX Cloud Alpha as well, we have a full in-depth review post solely focusing on that gaming headphone which you can check out here.

When it comes to sound quality, both headsets are pretty identical in a variety of ways such as the overall sound pressure. Cloud II does have a slight advantage compared to the Hyperx Cloud Alpha Pro due to the passive noise isolation system that the Alpha doesn’t have. Although this feature isn’t noise-canceling it definitely is a nice advantage over the HyperX Cloud Alpha headphones.

Both of the HyperX Cloud headphones have a built-in microphone, nearly an essential when it comes to gaming headsets, but both headphones are not compatible with Dolby digital which means you cannot broadcast sound through several audio channels. However, of course, the headset is compatible with XBOX LIVE so you’re able to talk during live games with other people. It’s also compatible with Playstation too.

In terms of functionality, the Cloud II features ear protectors which the Cloud Alpha does not. If you need these, it’s something that you’ll have to purchase later on. It isn’t a huge deal but it is a small difference that could make all the difference for you once again making the HyperX Cloud ii having a slight advantage over the previous Cloud Alpha model.

Overall Thoughts

When it comes to the HyperX Cloud ii review, we conclude that this HyperX Cloud II Gaming headset is definitely one of the best available for the gaming world. Gaming headsets are different from regular headsets on the market today. The HyperX Cloud ii headset has an exceptional sound quality which is great for all those sound effects during your games. It’s compatible with most gaming software like XBOX LIVE or Playstation although you will need to get an adaptor to connect to XBOX. It also features a super amazing quality microphone, which is detachable and allows you to talk with other players when playing live or even record with precision and high-quality sound.

HyperX Cloud II - Gaming Headset, 7.1 Surround Sound, Memory Foam Ear Pads,

One of the most important factors when it comes to gaming headphones is the fact that it’s comfortable. HyperX knows this and made comfort one of the top priorities when designing these headphones and we’ve seen that with many of their previous models in the past as well. With the addition of faux leather and plush ear pads, adjustable headband, and lightweight design, you can easily be wearing these headphones for hours upon hours and without the slightest bit of discomfort at all. We also love that this headphone comes with a carrying case, something that is really important to travel with your headphones and headsets and protect them from any damage. Although the headphones are not made with the most durable materials, they can get damaged over time if you take care of them and don’t abuse them, they should still last you for years and years to come.

Lastly, with the feature of the 7.1 surround sound feature, you can get a listening experience like no other with the HyperX Cloud II Gaming Headset.

We hope that this HyperX Cloud ii review really gave you the full picture when it comes to the HyperX Cloud II and if it’s the right headset for you and your needs.
