Review in More Detail

We tried out the Beats EP on ear headphones in different settings and situations to truly test out if it holds up to the headphone test. Here are our findings below…

Sound Quality

Beats are known for their sound quality and when you spend some time and really focus on listening to the audio that the Beats EP on ear headphones put out, you will notice that there has been a focus on the bass when it comes to design.

In terms of the sound quality of the Beats EP on ear headphones, it’s not perfect but it’s good. It’s a lot better than some of the previous Beats headphones that the Beats Headphones By Dre has released in the past. It’s a bit more balanced than what we’ve seen in the past and that shouldn’t be overlooked. We think that this headset has a fairly balanced sound between the bass, treble and mids which is something that Beats headphones by Dre has struggled with in the past.

When it comes to the volume though, if you put the volume too high, you will notice a saturated effect that will once again, cause the sound to be unbalanced once again. This means that it’s best to use the headphones in quieter places so you can avoid turning the headphones up really loud and distorting the sound.

The cord that’s included and necessary to listen to your device has a small control that allows you to pause and adjust the volume conveniently without having to touch the headset or your listening device.

Noise Reduction

Noise reduction is a must for most headphone buyers today and is quite an intelligent aspect to have. Unfortunately, this headset is not necessarily noise canceling but it does do a fairly good job of cutting the listener out of the outside world, especially compared to other headphones on the market today. That being said, it certainly isn’t perfect and there is a lot of better noise cancelling headsets out there, like the QuietComfort 35 II by Bose.

In terms of comfort for the Beat Ep headphones, they do fit rather tight compared to other headphones. That being said, a lot of people said overtime the headphones adjust to their head or their head adjusted to the headphones, either way making wearing them a bit more comfortable.

There is the padding on the ear cups which is pretty sufficient and makes for a decently comfortable listening experience. We do have to note that the rigid pivoting hinge and headband are really compact and therefore may not be ideal for everyone. Some people said that after an hour of listening, they did feel slight discomfort from the headband being too tight, and also others mentioned that they noticed their ears getting a bit warm because of the amount of padding that is included in the design as well.

All this being said, if you’re wearing the headphones on a really hot day, you may find this discomfort as well.

On the flip side, an area that makes the headphones more comfortable than others is the protective pouch that comes with it. This pouch allows you to easily take off your headphone and put it away, while still protecting it from scratches and protecting it if it falls. That’s one of the great things about Beats Headphones by Dre, they feature excellent carrying cases.

When it comes to headphones, design is an important aspect of the headphones. Some people love bright colors, while others want something a bit more neutral and sleek looking. The Beats headphones follow a fairly similar design style and this pair of headphones by Beats continues that trend.

When you look closely at the Beats EP design, you will quickly notice a lot of similarities between the headphone and the Beats Solo 3 Wireless headphones as well. It looks as if Beats mixed the Beats Solo 3 headphones together with the Beats Mixr headphones to create the Beats EP headphones.

The Beats EP headphones feature a sleek design and elegant shape throughout multiple aspects. It’s great for people of all ages and the style of it will appeal to a wide variety of people as well.

Features and Controls

When it comes to finding the right headset for you, a lot of people rank the features and controls of the headset as some of the most important aspects to consider. With that being said, the Beats by Dre feature a lot of similar features in all their models. This means if you’re familiar with any Beat headphones in the past, you would probably be able to pick up these Beats EP headphones and without any issues, operate it instantly.

Beats have designed their headphones to be really easy to use with the controls. This particular headset includes three buttons that allow you to perform a variety of functions including answering phone calls, starting your music, switching between songs, and of course, adjusting your volume. There are some areas that we wished the controls would improve in, but overall, we’re pretty happy with the button controls of the Beats EP headphones.

There’s a remote control on the audio cable as mentioned earlier. This pair of Beats headphones are not wireless which means you do have to have them plugged in to operate them. The cable that you use to plug your headphones into your device also feature a variety of controls to make your life and listening experience that much easier. With a single press, you can pause, play, or answer your phone calls. When you double click you can skip a song, and triple clicking takes you to the song previously. If you press down for a long time you can launch the virtual assistant setting on your smartphone like Siri. They’re not a crazy amount of features and functions, but it’s certainly the most common features that people are looking for when purchasing headphones today.

Most headphones today are Bluetooth compatible. The Beats EP headphones are wired on-ear headphones that you must plug into your use. There are a lot of cons that come with wired, non-wireless headphones, but there are also some advantages as well. One of the main advantages is that you never run out of battery power. This means that you can continue to use your headphones and never have to worry about charging them or stress that your headphones are out of power. This is especially great for traveling and long trips. Although there are issues with traveling with additional cord, Beats have designed the headphones in a way that the cord can come out so you can store it a little bit more practical in the carrying pouch than other wired headphones on the market today.

Accessories are something that more and more people are starting to consider when looking to purchase new headphones. The Beats EP headphones come with a variety of different accessories that make the listening experience that much better. This set includes a lightning port adaptor as well as a connection cable and a carrying case as well.

Not a lot of headphones come with a lightning port adapter but because the latest iPhone models don’t have a jack port anymore, Beats have thought ahead and have put in a lightning port to accomodate iPhone users.

The carrying bag is heavy duty and is a great way to keep all your detachable cords in one, organized place and also safe out of harm’s way from getting damaged.

Comparing to Beats Solo 3

When it comes to the Beats EP headphones review compared to the other Beats models, there are a few things that are different and a lot of things are the same. As mentioned, Beats tend to stick to a lot of the same systems and designs when creating their headphones. We have noticed that when searching through other Beats headphones that a lot of them are very comparable to the Beats EP headphones. When looking at what the majority of people are searching for to compare, we found that people who were looking at the Beats EP and the Beats Solo 3.

Even though they are both from the same brand, there are surprisingly a lot of differences between the two Beats headphones. The Beats Solo 3 headphones are a popular wireless Beats headset whereas the Beats EP headphones are not wireless and have a cord. This means that you never need to charge the Beats EP when using them, but you will need to charge the Solo 3 headphones to use them.

The Solo 3 headphones have a audio latency which can sometimes affect the sound quality of the headphones, especially when you’re watching videos. We didn’t notice this to be extreme, but it was definitely present, especially when on YouTube.

The two headsets feature very similar design style and are pretty identical when it comes the shape of the headset. They both offer comfortable experiences but slight discomfort on the ears after long use. This doesn’t seem to be much of a Beats EP or Beats Solo 3 issue, but a Beats headphone issue in general. So chances are if you’re looking at purchasing a pair of Beats, you will come across this issue.

The Solo 3 features controls that can be all done right on the device since there is no cord. This gives the user a lot more control and flexibility, perfect for running or working out and you don’t want to have you phone attached to you while you’re working out. Lastly, both headsets feature similar accessories but the accessories that come with the Solo 3 are a bit more practical with having warranty card, quick start guide, carrying case, USB cable charge to charge the battery and a remote call cable as well.

Overall Thoughts

When it comes to a Beats EP on ear headphones review, our overall thought is that this model from Beats Headphones by Dre is a pretty solid option if you’re looking for affordable headphones and don’t mind if they’re wireless or not. Beats headphones by Dre are known for their high-quality and because of that, can get rather expensive. The Beats EP headphones allow individuals to get that same Beats quality without a heft price tag which is very appealing to a lot of people.

We do think that there are definitely a lot more comfortable options, especially for long wear on the market today. We mentioned the Bose QuietComfort 35 II headphones which are definitely one of the most comfortable headsets on the market, but at a much higher price point. What we tried to do with the Beats EP is look at the headset for it is. This headset is a high quality sound playing wired in headphone so comparing it to an ultra-plush wireless and Bluetooth headphone is like comparing apples and oranges and something that is not necessarily useful.

At the end of the day, is the Beats EP headphones right for you? That’s up to you to decide after taking a variety of factors, features, and information that we went over above, into consideration and reflecting if it’s what you need and is looking for.

We hope that you found this Beats EP review helpful in your search for the right headphones for you.
